Ik ben Alice

One-off screening followed by a discussion with Blanche Leider, project coordinator for the fight against loneliness among the elderly, Belgian Red Cross The Alice robot has been developed to meet the future demands of caring for lonely elderly people suffering from dementia. Can a robot establish a real relationship with a person and thus replace a human being? The “robot companion” leaves the laboratory to visit the homes of Mrs Remke, Mrs Schellekens-Blanke and Mrs van Wittmarschen. The three elderly ladies the robot visits in “Ik ben Alice” all develop a real sense of affection for the robot. They are getting on in years, and fully qualify for the Alice services developed by SELEMCA. SELEMCA is a group trying to discover how, with the help of nurses and families, the “social robot” Alice could talk and react to alleviate the effects of loneliness on the elderly. The result of the experiment is surprising for everyone involved… On VOD

Otherwise (with vegetables)

“Autrement” challenges our power to change through a citizen experiment that develops new models of partnership between consumers and farmers. From her solidarity buying group, the director joins a dynamic network that takes her from Brussels to Zagreb to meet a movement in full bloom: CSA (Community-supported Agriculture). By reinvesting the link between them, eaters and producers are setting up an alternative mode of consumption in a short circuit, respectful of the living world. Through food, which affects everyone, the CSA experience puts people back at the heart of exchanges. Can we become agents of change? On VOD

Wandering and roots

Médiation is first and foremost a place, lost in the Massif des Maures, deep in the Var. In the midst of a dark, lush landscape, with a harsh but sun-drenched climate, a few makeshift buildings house a dozen homeless men, some of whom have spent several years on the streets, others severely handicapped by illness or accident. Some only stay a few months, others plan to stay for the rest of their lives. And with them, sheep, chickens, donkeys, cats and many dogs. Noah’s Ark bringing together all types of galleys in a superb setting, Raft of the Medusa in the middle of the Azure Sea. But for those who come to seek refuge, Médiation offers new roots, including in the most concrete sense, those of the trees and plants that residents learn to cultivate. By looking after the animals, they also become attached to them, and learn to look after themselves again. Preview
