Synopsis

In September 2014, the very 1st baby conceived following a uterus transplant was born in Sweden: one woman's uterus transplanted into another woman's womb. The film tells the story of a scientific adventure that gives hope to women born without a uterus (1 in 5000) or deprived of this organ as a result of cancer or an accident. This medical feat is yet another episode in mankind's great battle against infertility. Already, uterus transplants could go beyond the strictly medical sphere. Transsexuals and homosexuals see it as an opportunity to experience pregnancy. As for Swedish society, it sees it as a way for couples to finally be on an equal footing, with both husband and wife able to carry their child. The transplant also paves the way for a totally artificial uterus, capable of conceiving a baby 100% outside the womb. A future prospect that was considered remote, but is perhaps becoming less so?
