Synopsis

To care for his mother suffering from dementia, photographer Michael Appelt returns to his childhood bedroom at the age of fifty. Traumatized by a long stay in hospital and suffering from depression, he looks after his mother while reminiscing about his past adventures. Reiner Riedler's documentary explores essential themes such as aging and despair, while highlighting Appelt's photographic work. "Die Guten Jahre" bears witness to the unconditional love between mother and son.
